Many Meetings …

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Well, three, at any rate, with different people and various places.

First up, Su Xu Vin, at her campus (UKM) in Chow Kit. In which one of the first things she said was “Hey! You’re actually wearing girly shoes!” .. and one of the next was “Quick, grab my bag and pretend to be a student. Sorry, forgot to tell you that you should come with a collared tshirt.”

She also treated me to one of best hawker food I had had in KL - haha. I feel so pai seh cuz practically everyone (read: all but 1, so far) that meets up with me insists on paying *whistles innocently*

Then, then, we crashed one of UKM’s tutorial rooms - you see, it had AIR CON and a WORKING INTERNET CONNECTION … but that comp had no mouse. So….. for like 2 hours it was TabTabTabShift-TabTabTabTabArgh … you get the picture. Unlike *some* people, I am *not* wellversed in navigating mouseless. Look, I know it can be done, and yes, they ARE keyboard shortcuts, but i dont know many shortcuts…. so …. but we still managed to check mail, read blogs, etc. and of course lots lots lots of conversation.

Then there was the Tzehowe afternoon in The Curve. Which started by me getting lost - in KL im the default navigator cuz mum drives, i cant actually drive tho i do have my CDL - and arriving about an hour late. Whoops.

Which earned me the comment - after Tze found out I only left house, like 30 minutes before the agreed time - “You have a lot of confidence in your navigation skills, eh?”

And me being my indecisive self (Shoutout to Joyce and Jess, whom between the 3 of us could not decide on a place to eat in Bugis!), we spent at least 15 minutes on inane conversation along these lines.

“Where do you want to eat? Chinese, Thai, Western …?”
“Umm…. McDs?”
“You come to Malaysia and all you want to eat is McDs?”
“Not really, but thats always my default when I cant decide”
“So, where do you want to eat?”
“I don’t know”
“Pick one”
“One.”

Ended up at the cheese baked rice place (I forgot the name) - where I couldn’t choose what I wanted, either. Again, I didn’t pay for it. Even after telling him i could….

Then, spent the next 2 hours? hour? or so circling The Curve (literally going round in circles) before calling it a day.

The third and final meeting is the one with Michelle Sam !!

Which actually deserves a post all to itself. Also because its 0200 and I really should sleep.

And, Finally:

Singapura!

Monday, November 17th, 2008

I have spectacularly good timing - i decided to spend the weekend before NUS/NTU exams in Singapore - basically bugging old friends =P

Meaning that just about everyone was stressing out.

In my defense, though, it is my summer hols (3.5 months!!! woots), and that there isnt much time before leaving to China [dad's job], cuz visa arrangements take 5 days - in which my passport will not be able to be used, and the schedule is we’re all in China by 1st week of December.

drat. i have lost the ability to write in unconvoluted sentences.

Despite the bad timing, it ended up being a great trip. Bent ceiling fans and late nights and tired faces and long discussions ranging from lit to law to anatomy. Fun. Including two walks across NUS campus after 10 pm due to inavailability/infrequency of shuttle buses.

oh. and ambigious text messages :
[excerpts from said messages]

“if you want to sleep with Your friend also no problem”
two sms later -
“you’re seducing me”

for the record, ‘your friend’ refers to chee eng, and ya jie sent both sms.

Anyways, met up with the Sitiawan ACS alumni ppl - of which i was yet again the youngest and so was more or less quite quiet during the whole dinner - thanks to Kelvin for the invite (and the meal!)

Saturday - Boon Lay, NTU and Bugis.
Sunday - Lunch with ex AJC ASEAN malaysian scholars - then a panicked rush to Golden Mile (when i actually had plenty of time)

No photos tho.

The other notable incident was me almost getting stuck in Woodlands due to lack of any Singapore currency whatsoever upon entering Sg - there was neither ATM machines nor money changers. Hence i grew extremely thick skinned and went and asked a couple of ladies who were on the same KL-Sg bus as me for change to board the SMRT bus. garh.

Moral of the story - at least have some currency whenever you enter another country.

Wrapping up, just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who agreed to meet up with me, especially in the midst of exams.

Plus the whole thing wouldnt have been possible if Ya Jie didnt offer me accommodation.
