What I learnt today…

… if you want to grab a live wire or "test" whether theres current running through a wire or not, do it with the back of your hand.

That way, as soon as u get shocked, you break contact with the current by yanking your hand away (as opposed to gripping the wire tighter)

Books

Have I ever mentioned that the last time i was in NZ (primary 5, year 1999), I used to come back from the library with a stack of 10 books each week - and finish them?

It seems like im starting the same thing - just that now my books are on my laptop. And i don’t count books by the number i read anymore… its all by file size.

Some pointless details :
eBook Folder size (.txt .lit .pdf .doc .rtf & .htm(l) files) : 135MB
of which i’ve read probably around 2/3 of it : so thats roughly 85MB over 4 years since I started accumulating them.

Which isn’t much compared to, say, movies - one 2 hour movie is roughly 600MB.
But its a lot of text.

1000 words - roughly 20kb in a .doc file, say 10-15kb in a .txt file …

so taking 15kb per 1000 words,
85000/15 * 1000= 5666,667 words or 5.7 million words in 4 years.

What’s worrying, of course, is that I can remember finishing at least 8 books over the last 2 weeks.

AND its mid-semester exams season. (now’s the time to headdesk)

*the rough calculations thing i think i blame Mr Robert Heinlein and his somewhat annoying habit of penning figures into his fiction stories

On another note, I think I like it here.
