freedom… and responsibility

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

freedom to decide when exactly to study, when to do homework.
paired with the responsibility to ensure that study is actually conducted, homework not left undone.

freedom from asking permission to go out on weekends
responsibility to ensure that there is suffiencient money in the bank account…

freedom from chores .. laundry, washing dishes…
responsibility for other chores… sewing on buttons, making sure the room is at least habitable…

freedom to chose the subject combination, to chose cca
responsibility… to cope with what is chosen, late evenings/nights back and all.

on another note, what should you do when temptation comes knocking?

the inneccesant call from the laptop with internet when theres a stack of homework 1 foot high.
the invitation to go out when theres a test tomorrow.
the offer to get ‘tips’ about SPA - the practical component of A-levels paper.
distractions, distractions, distractions.
the urge to fall asleep during very boring lectures - like econs.
the temptation to go on sleeping past meal times, skipping meals for 2 hours of sleep…
and having instant noodles to satisfy hunger pangs.

———–

maturity comes knocking when noone really wants it,
treading smoothly through the door of opportunity,
tearing down old habits
and replacing them
cause everyone has to grow up sometime.
including me

part of the problem? or…

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

hmm.. recently (well, past month or two or so…) there seems to this slate of bash-ACS-and-or-Sitiawan-Wesley posts appearing in blogs.. can’t really comment on how true (or not) the posts are, besides noticing that for the most part they’re full off outrage/dissatisfaction/disappointment/some confusion…

as for my 2 cents (being a newcomer — you could say long term "visitor") to sitiawan and all its problems — or lack thereof — since i couldnt  / didnt notice any of the things that were mentioned on those posts, well… i think there’s a few things that i would like to point out..

1) what are the objectives/aims of blogging on those issues?
cuz from what i see, its mainly just a vent, and also from what i see, the posts almost seems like its been copied from one blog to another. is it that once someone has posted, the others suddenly feel "free" to join in as well..more or less just rewording some parts? cuz if thats the case, it doesnt bring anybody closer to a solution. (the more it is mentioned, the more ppl think about it and the more ppl start to feel the same way, leading to a worse problem — or the perception that the problem is worsened)

So, IMHO, unless you really have something new to add, please please do not take inspiration from the "anger" posts and reword them into your own. it doesnt help. plus one post (well-worded, insightful and true) will probably spread of its own accord quite fast — so repeating it does not really help "expose the situation so that it may more easily be solved"

2) do you really think that blogging about it will help solve the prob?
or is it an excuse just to "shoot" those - even tho those ppl may indeed be bitches/backstabbers/hypocrites/whatever - in public , even tho names are not added.

and for the record… i’ve always regarded sitiawan wesley’s myf as quite enjoyable (esp pre-and-post-fellowship *grin*) and thought provoking  — (marriage anybody?)

as for ACS, well.. i do regard it a extremely good school .. and damn fun to be in.

Wireless internet!!!!

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

good.

wireless internet… after a long last. now i can (finally) take out my laptop and use it properly - even tho that means getting back into the updating-antivirus-and-firewalls routine… but which after all shouldnt be to difficult.

firefox’s extensions : DownThemAll is good - dl speed jumped from <10kb/s to >20kb/s , sometimes hitting 100+ kb/s. whoa. heheh. not bad considering this is a) wireless and b) shared internet (5 ppl) and c) im farthest away from the signal.

the other one that i got was videodownloader - this is for ripping videos off youtube - but the videos are saved in .flv files, which are quite poor quality videos. but then again, its better than nothing. (yep, i have SJS’s 2006 kuching performance, spectacular…)

hmm..

thinking i should revive my mutator… as in.. start tinkering with it again. which means ill have to brush up on arrays and curly brackets once more. but.. im not sure wheter i have the time and/or inclination to do a major component, cuz what i have in mind (semi-automated brute force attacks on multi_alpha_shift ciphers) is more complex than what ive attempted before. hmmmm… im not sure wheter its even possible.

computers aside, i have 5 unread economists to keep myself occupied with - when im done with my homework - which i mainly do in school anyway so that isnt really a problem yet. file checks - bio, phys are done, chem file check coming up. the rest… im not so sure.

badminton : somethings up with the team… the elusive thing called team-bonding hasnt happend yet, but i guess it takes time (i cant say much cuz im new - still)

nop, no angst this week, or last.

exams (promos aka final) in 6 weeks time. yep. time to crack the books.
